After leaving our friends in NB, we headed into Maine. All throughout Canada we were warned about moose, and made sure to never drive at night. We never saw a moose during our 3.5 weeks there, but as soon as we crossed into Maine we saw our very first moose. We were on a two lane road looking for the road to our campsite and there she was. Huge. She was standing perpendicular in the road, directly in the middle, just 3 feet short of taking up the entire two lanes. Incredible. I’ve always heard moose are huge, but to see it in person, wow! We spotted her from at least 100 yards away so we had some time to let off the pedal and coast slowly towards here. She eventually moved, but until then we just stopped at watched her.
We got to our campsite just in time for the rain to start drizzling. We leveled the truck, cranked it up and went in for the night. Again, not a soul around, just us in the middle of the forest. We woke up the next morning to an overcast day and decided to go explore a bit until our next destination. Fall had just started to settle in (we were hoping for more colors, but the season has been late this year) and the rivers were flowing. Here’s a bit of what we found. 🙂
And then to our next destination – Acadia National Park.
