October + November 2012
And, we made it home. It was a pretty quick trip. We pulled in Sunday morning from Atlanta and somehow managed to unpacked the ENTIRE truck and Little House. I did so much laundry that I was about to pull my hair out. We weren’t sure what our next step was, so we packed and upacked with the mindset of we are either going to Hawaii or California for the winter. Either way, ski jackets and the like were not needed. We had to think SMALL. While our current living situation was small, our next living situation might be even smaller. We were either flying to Hawaii with very few bags, or driving to California in my New Beetle, which doesn’t hold a ton of stuff.
It was rough. We had downsized so much already when we moved out of our home last summer. Who knew it could all be so overwhelming?! It was like we had piles and piles and PILES that were never-ending. But somehow we made it. 🙂 Then we listed the truck and Little House for sale. We waited patiently for a few weeks, hoping SOMEONE would buy all this stuff. While we loved our truck and camper, we didn’t have a need for either anymore. At least not in the immediate future. Plus after living in a camper for so long we have a pretty good idea of what we’d like to have/not have if we were ever to do something like this again. And we already have enough things in storage, we definitely did not need to add to it. Better to have these items be used by someone who can really enjoy them. 🙂
I had a handful of photo shoots scheduled and Jonathan worked diligently to find another traveling contract, similar to the one he had in San Francisco. We visited friends. We ran miles and miles. Our friends Ryan and Melanie moved to downtown Chattanooga this past year so we went and stayed with them for a week or so. It was so fun! I felt like I got a nice taste of what it’s like to live downtown. I really loved running on RiverPark and on the bridge in the mornings. Fall is one of my favorite times of year and Chattanooga does it so very well. The colors got better and better our entire visit! Little House sold and we were very very happy. One less thing to worry about!
Then Jonathan got word that his friend Ted in Maryland wanted to give him a ’61 vw baja beetle. Jonathan about jumped with excitement, as fixing one of these up as been a dream of his for years. We bought $15 tickets one-way bus tickets from Knoxville, TN to Washington D.C. on Megabus and made our way north. We figured we’d get the bug running enough to road-trip home. But then Jonathan got a call from a hospital in Orange County and was hired for a winter contract! We quickly towed the bug to TN from D.C., packed up his things and lucky for us the truck sold the day before he drove to California. Amazing!
I had a few more photo sessions so I decided to stay in Tennessee for two weeks longer, then fly out. I stayed with friends and had lots of coffee dates and ran more miles in a week than I ever have before. I shot my entire design portfolio and put a website together. Something that has been on my to-do list for YEARS! Check it out here: www.mblissm.com
I also compiled the AWW 2013 Calendar. It was so much fun and very exciting to see my dreams become real. I still have a few calendars left so if you’re interested please visit the store here. I also have various prints available from our trip available.
Here’s a quick recap of our Chattanooga adventures:
1. Dinner dates with Jamie Ann. One of our favorites, Taco Mamacita.
2. Climbing adventures with the gang. Yes, I actually climbed. I don’t know what’s gotten into me!3. Breakfast at Rembrandt’s.4. Shopping at the Chattanooga Market.5. Korean tacos from Taco Sherpa. Might sound weird, but I liked it so much I’m going to try to make it at home.
Our short time in Chattanooga was all a blur. We are now settled into our happy little Newport Beach apartment. More on that soon. I’m going to take a little break from the blog and enjoy spending time with my family over the holidays.
This blog will resume the beginning of 2013. Much much more to come! In the meantime, you can find us on Instagram:
