April 11 + 12, 2013
My mom sent Jonathan a birthday gift card to Olive Garden in April. We decided to go for lunch one day and while we were there, it dawned on me that our friends from Canada were going to be in Florida for a conference sometime soon. We had told them we wouldn’t be able to meet up, as we had planned to be in New Orleans at that time. I sent them a text message and what do you know – they were there right then! And staying in this sweet little condo with an extra room calling our name. So, crazy us, we left the restaurant, got our affairs in order and drove down the next day. Nothing like a last minute road trip, right?
We had quite an adventure. It was so fun to be together again. And this time we got to see Gracie too. 🙂 She and I played “Queen of Egypt” on the patio. We all shared stories and played at the playground. We went swimming in the pool. We barbecued. I managed to get a run in even though it was hot. There is this place just down the road called Fun Spot, so we decided to spend a day there together. We went on every ride and decided that go-karts, bumper cars, and the leap frog kids ride (my favorite) were the best. The ferris wheel was actually really fun too! There is a beautiful view of the city. Jonathan and I rode on it five or six times in a row.
We took a break for lunch at Sweet Tomatoes (aka Soup Plantation), then I took the girls to the outlets and the boys went back for more go-karting. We met up again for dinner, then Jonathan and I went back to the park and rode rides until they closed at midnight. It was such a fun day!
We were so happy that they happened to be Florida right as we thought of it. It was completely meant to be! We feel so blessed by the lasting friendships and experiences our trip around the country afforded us. Here’s to embracing spontaneity and traveling often!
