jasper day II

August 25, 2012

Wow! Jasper is continually blowing my mind with beauty. We went on a few short hikes today and actually covered a ton of ground. We drove and hiked down Maligne Canyon and visited Athabasca Falls. My favorite part of Jasper is the Valley of Five Lakes. It’s a short 3 mile hike as you pass in and around some gorgeously turquoise lakes. And we couldn’t have timed our day better – the reflections in the water were out of this world cool! When we got to the second lake we found a row boat and were hoping it wasn’t tied up so we could go play. Sadly it was tied up, but there was a note to call and get a key to use the boat. Next time this WILL happen. If only we would have known! After our mini adventure around the lakes we headed farther south down the Icefields Parkway and made it to the Athabasca Glacier. It has receded a serious amount in the last few decades so I’m thankful we were able to still see it! By this time it was almost dark so we drove a little farther until we found a secret pullout. Hah! We avoided paying to camp in a National Park! Sneaky…

This place is off balance…
The view looking at Malinge Lake. The beginning of our Five Lakes hike.Seriously…this reflection?? My fav.The canoe we wanted to paddle in!Our drive south.Goats! The Athabasca Glacier. Brr!
